65 Year Old Woman Hit By Motorboat While Swimming In Lake

A woman was hit by a motorboat while swimming on Lake James on Saturday. 65 year old Ruth Petitti of LaGrange was swimming Saturday afternoon around 2, when she was hit by a motorboat driven by 38 year old Matthew Gumbel of Angola. Gumbel and others told investigators that Petitti was not visible in the water, because it was rough and choppy. Petitti was pulled from the lake by her husband, and taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne with open fractures to her foot and injuries to her lower leg. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
