EDON PLANT CLOSING

The fight is on to save jobs in Edon.

The former Diversified Machine Inc., now called Chassix Inc., announced on April 23rd that the company plans to close the Edon plant by February 2014, and most employees are expected to be released by the end of 2013. Approximately 76 workers are currently employed there, although the union’s roster includes nearly 125.

Edon Mayor Darlene Burkhardt told the Bryan Times that the manufacturing plant has been a huge part of the community since it began operations in the 1950s as Edon Machine.

Burkhardt said the closing of the plant and loss of jobs would have a devastating effect on everyone in the community.
