The Ohio State Highway Patrol was out in full force this past Labor Day weekend, and reports indicate a decrease in traffic fatalities. Eleven fatal crashes resulted in 11 deaths during the reporting period of Friday, September 4 at 12 a.m. through Monday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m. This is one less crash and one less death than last year. In total, 723 motorists were arrested for OVI and 6,260 motorists received safety belt citations. Troopers increased overall contact by three percent in an effort to spread traffic safety messages to as many motorists as possible.
