Bryan Municipal Utilities is celebrating Public Power Week, now through this Saturday, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned electric utilities across the U.S. that provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis. Public Power Week is an annual event that recognizes the benefits of local, community-owned electric utilities. Locally, to celebrate Public Power Week, Bryan Municipal Utilities, BMU lineworkers will demonstrate their climbing and line working skills, and community members are invited to an open house at the Electric Facilities this Thursday from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. on East Edgerton Street in Bryan. Kids will have the opportunity to dress up like a lineworker and have their photos taken. In addition, there will be free LED lightbulbs for Bryan electric customers, andBMU will serve up hot dogs from the grill and refreshments. Bryan Municipal Utilities has served Bryan since 1892, and today has 44 employees and serves approximately 5,000 residential customers and 750 commercial and industrial customers.
