A advocacy group seeking an amendment to the Ohio Constitution for victims rights has been traveling the state seeking support among local leaders. Marsy’s Law for Ohio Field Director Corey Edwards said some of these rights, such as victim’s notification of pending court appearances by convicted offenders are on the books, but are not being enforced. As the director of the Williams County Victims Assistance program and a long-time victim’s rights advocate, Jacque Harris has seen how victims of violence can be overlooked by the justice system. Harris is joining with supporters of the proposed amendment that they say would strengthen and clearly define the rights of crime victims, and make victims’ rights consistent with the constitutional rights of the accused.
