Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Director David Daniels, who was raised in Greenfield, was the guest speaker Tuesday at the Hicksville Rotary Club’s Farm and Vendor Day at Hicksville High School.
Daniels told the group that there are about 73,500 farms in Ohio.
He said he’s excited about Ohio becoming the first state granted a cooperative agreement under new U.S. Department of Agriculture rules, that will allow changes in meat inspection regulations that will mean big increases in business for some processors.
Agriculture, according to Daniels, is the number one industry in the state, fueling the economy to the tune of over $107 billion annually.
