Angola strip club lawsuit dropped

A court fight to bring a strip club to Angola is over. Mayor Dick Hickman announcing at Monday nights city council meeting that attorneys for Alva and Sandra Butler say that showgirls received permission to withdraw the case from Federal court citing Butlers declining health. The court proceedings began in 2012 after Butler purchased the old Sliders restaurant to turn it into a strip club. That action set off a nearly four year battle in Federal court. Butler claimed his 1st and 14th amendment rights had been violated after the city took a number of steps to block the business from opening. Mayor Hickman said at the council meeting that the council is glad the law suit is over, and “it’s been a long, difficult road.”
