AquaBounty has submitted two applications to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for permits involving wastewater. AquaBounty is in the process of building a 479,000-square-foot facility to raise 10,000 metric tons of genetically modified salmon a year at the Pioneer North Industrial Park. The project would cost the aquaculture facility up to $320 million. The controversial farm would take an average of 4.3 million gallons a day of water from the underground aquifer and discharge an average of 4.24 mgd into the St. Joseph River. At most, the project will take 5.25 mgd and discharge 5.19 mgd.
