An officer involved shooting has left one man dead. The Williams County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating the man’s death yesterday morning.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies were dispatched to a residence on US 20 near CR 7 for a wellbeing check.
Deputies say an area health care facility had been in contact with an adult male who sounded irate and upset, making suicidal statements that led health care personnel to believe he intended to harm himself or others with a high powered rifle.
At 10:13AM, deputies arrived at the residence and found the man sitting outside in a chair with what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle. Dispatchers told the officers that the man’s family said he had a history of mental issues. At 10:52, a medic and life squad responded to the scene where deputies say the man was fatally shot by an officer.
The incident is under investigation by the Williams County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, as well as the Williams County Coroner and Prosecutor’s Office.
