Beaver Defrocked

A Roman Catholic priest…accused of sexually assaulting minors…including when he was pastor in Montpelier and Blakeslee from 1984 to 1994…has been defrocked. Church leaders in Rome have affirmed the Toledo Diocese’s decision in 2019 that Nelson Beaver, charged with sexual abuse of minors during the late 1980s or early 1990s, be removed from the clergy. Allegations that Beaver sexually abused minors about 25 years ago were deemed “substantiated” after a review by the Diocesan Review Board. That was in 2019. The Board voted unanimously that Beaver was not suitable for priestly ministry. He was placed on administrative leave in October 2018 after the allegations surfaced…in Williams, Huron and Lucas counties, where the alleged abuse took place.
