Emergency personnel from Paulding and Allen counties are called to the scene of a semi versus train crash, along Ohio 613, west of Payne. Officials tell reporters the big rig, from a Matthews, N.C., trucking company, was crossing the Norfolk Southern tracks, when the trailer got hung up. The driver was unable to free the semi, and got out before the eastbound train, hauling grain, smashes into it. The driver is okay. The train engineer and conductor were unharmed as well. The impact scattered debris for a quarter of a mile…as the train blocked three crossings for nearly four hours. A similar crash in that area took place just hours earlier.
