Blizzard Auction Deemed Huge Success This Year

The WBNO/WQCT 36th Annual Blizzard Auction was a huge success, with Conquer Childhood Cancer NOW getting more than $14,000 which will be put to use for treating and defeating childhood cancers.

Conquer Childhood Cancer NOW has a three-pronged approach to fighting the disease.

One of their goals is to raise awareness about childhood cancer. Their hope is that the gold ribbon emblem, which is associated with the issue, becomes as recognizable as the pink ribbon is for breast cancer awareness.

The second goal is support of childhood cancer research. According to CCCN’s website, there have been no new childhood cancer drugs approved in the past 20 years. The group often raises funds for other organizations specifically aimed at finding new, vital treatment options. The group says many childhood cancers are already in stage four when first discovered.

The group’s third goal is assisting families affected by childhood cancer. Last year the group helped families buy groceries and fuel, pay utility bills and make holiday purchases.

The group helped 14 families last year.
