Bryan’s police and fire chief were both promoted to regular full-time status during city council’s regular meeting on Tuesday. Greg Ruskey and Doug Pool were hired at the end of December 2021 to lead the city’s police and fire departments, respectively. With their six-month probationary period over, council unanimously approved the mayor’s recommendation they be promoted to regular status. Ruskey came to Bryan police as a captain in January 2021 after having served with the Williams County Sheriff’s Office since 2002, including as a lieutenant starting in 2013. Pool has been with the Bryan Fire Department for 28 years, starting as a firefighter and working his way up the ladder. He took over following the retirement of longtime chief, Bruce Siders.
