Bryan Fire Chief Bruce Siders says his department needs to hire two additional firefighters to ensure its “ability to respond with appropriate resources” to emergency calls. Siders brought his staffing concerns to Bryan City Council at Monday’s regular meeting. The chief explained that under the current staffing structure, the department has four firefighters on duty from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. That leaves what Siders called “a gap” in staffing during the 6-7 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. hours, which tend to be high-demand times. It also can be problematic on weekends. He stated they’re trying to figure out a way to fill that gap.
