BRYAN PLANE CRASH CLAIMS MICHIGAN MAN’S LIFE

Since 1982, seven planes have crashed in the Bryan area. One more went down over the weekend.

A Michigan man’s plane crashed Saturday morning just north of Bryan.

The pilot, 62 year old Leslie Dean of Ann Arbor died Saturday afternoon at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo where he was taken following the crash. His passenger, 51 year old Kent Hyne, also of Ann Arbor, was admitted to St. Vincent’s.

Police say a plane enthusiast group met Saturday morning for a fly-in at the Bryan Aero Park. That’s where Dean’s 2010 home made single-engine aircraft was attempting to land at approximately 8:30 a.m. when another aircraft was also attempting to land from the opposite direction.

The pilots saw each other and at the last second, both aborted their landings, Dean’s plane lost power and crashed into a cornfield. The other plane landed safely.
