It looks like a win for proponents of pumping water from the aquifer and selling it to communities outside the footprint. The Ohio EPA has preliminarily approved a proposed well near Fayette by Artesian of Pioneer. It’s just one well site, located along County Road S, northwest of Fayette. The EPA says the announcement also carries another message, to solicit public comments on the proposal. So, a public information session will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at Fayette Local School, on Gamble Road. Also, the EPA will hold a public notice and comment period, soon, as well. Officials on both sides say it is just one step in a long process before anything will begin.
