Charged With Dog Violations

Two people from Bryan have been charged following a dog attack earlier this month that ended when Bryan Police shot and killed one of the dogs.

Officers were called out on a report of two unlicensed pit bulls running loose in the area of the American Legion Post 284 and Lincoln Elementary School on East Butler Street.

One of the pit bulls ran home, but the other attacked and carried off a Chihuahua which was on a leash with its owner at the time. The Chihuahua died due to its injuries.

Police arrived and attempts were made to subdue the pit bull with a stun gun. When that had no effect, police fired, killing the dog.

The Bryan Times reports that Renee Schlegel and Ryan Mumaw each have now been charged with failure to register the dogs and dog-at-large violations.
