CHURCH BUS CRASH KILLS THREE

An Indi­anapo­lis church youth pas­tor, his preg­nant wife and another church mem­ber were killed when a church bus over­turned with just a mile to go in a return trip from a Michi­gan sum­mer camp on Sat­ur­day.

The con­gre­ga­tion of Colo­nial Hills Bap­tist Church is mourn­ing those deaths after the bus crashed with 37 peo­ple on board. Youth pas­tor Chad Phelps, his preg­nant piano-teacher wife, Court­ney, and chap­er­one Tonya Wein­dorf were killed. Dozens of oth­ers were injured in the crash, which hap­pened Sat­ur­day.

A 68-year-old con­gre­ga­tion mem­ber who was dri­ving the church-owned bus, told police that its brakes

failed before the bus hit a raised con­crete median and flipped on its side.
