The City of Bryan is updating its planning and zoning code, and along with it at least one city board. A large part of the changes are to eliminate processes and regulations not used by the city any longer, as well as some terminology and redundancies. Officials say the changes trimmed the document down by about 70 pages. They say the hope is to remove some red tape from procedures and eliminate multiple applications that have to be made sometimes in the process. If the proposed changes are accepted by council, any administrative appeals will go to the planning commission. In addition, the proposed code would eliminate a section that regulates temporary signs, such as those used at election time. Some say the city would still like to include a provision which states election signs must be removed within 30 days after an election, but will get back to council on whether that can be included.
