Crash Fatal For Putnam Woman

A Put­nam County woman died in a two-vehicle crash Mon­day after­noon near Grover Hill.

The Put­nam County Coroner’s Office says 53 year old Jane Deken of Con­ti­nen­tal, was pro­nounced dead at the scene of the crash , which hap­pened just befor 4pm Mon­day on Ohio 637, north of Town­ship Road 82 in Jack­son Town­ship.

Accord­ing to the Sheriff’s report, Deken drove over the mid­dle line, and into the path of an oncom­ing semi dri­ven by 23 year old Bran­don Appel of Edger­ton. Deken’s car ended up along the side of the road­way… the truck came to rest in a field and caught fire.

Appel, who was not hurt, was able to escape the burn­ing truck. Accord­ing to the Ohio High­way Patrol, both dri­vers were wear­ing their seat belts. That crash is still under investigation.
