An elderly woman dies behind the wheel in DeKalb County. Investigators say 88-year-old Phyllis Reardon of Auburn was on County Road 16, near Waterloo, when she failed to heed the stop sign at the intersection of Indiana 427. Reardon T-bones a pickup, driven by John Bassett of Butler. The impact, at speed, sends Bassett’s vehicle careening off the roadway. Reardon’s car spins and stays on the road. She died instantly. Bassett is flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. He is in stable condition at this hour. The investigation continues.
