A truck driver was killed early Wednesday morning in a semi crash on the Ohio Turnpike near Delta. 47 year old Russell Florida of Warren, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened early yesterday morning, around 12:35 a.m., when a semi driven by 61 year old Charles Simons of New York, traveling westbound, reportedly experienced mechanical failure and became disabled in the right lane of travel with no lights. Simons and his passenger, 50 year old John Adams III of Illinois, got out of the semi and were flagging westbound traffic around the disabled vehicle, which was hauling U.S. mail. Florida’s truck, carrying general freight, failed to stop in time, slammed into the rear of the semi and came to rest in a ditch. Simons and Adams were not injured. The westbound lanes of the turnpike were closed for about three hours while crews cleared the scene. The crash remains under investigation today.
