The 2016 Defiance County Fair is now history. Exact statistics from the Fair are not yet in, but fair board president Jerry Sanders doesn’t need statistics to state the obvious that the rains did hurt attendance this year. Rain has been a constant presence at the Defiance County Fair since 1989, with everything from short sprinkles to complete week-long rainouts making their presence known during the eight-day event. However, Sanders believes the rain did not deter fans of the fair, who ultimately compensated for it on other days. While large crowds were expected for such traditional fare as the parade of bands and the demolition derby, many of the animal shows drew large amounts of both audience members and participants.
