The Defiance Fire Department responded to a sulfur dioxide leak in Defiance Monday morning. Fire personnel were called to the Defiance water treatment plant, on Ohio 281, around 8 a.m. for a reported sulfur dioxide leak. While changing over cylinders, plant personnel reported a small leak.The fire department reported that the building was vacated and sealed, with a safety alarm sounding. A p ersonnel crew and a two-person back-up crew were assigned to open the doors and ventilate the area. After approximately 10 minutes, the crews entered the building, silenced the alarm and checked the air quality with a monitor. By 8:19 a.m., fire crews cleared the scene.
