Defiance is celebrating its 30th year as a Tree City.

It’s all about the trees. Defiance is celebrating its 30th year as a Tree City. Tree City USA is a program founded by the Arbor Day Foundation to help and recognize communities that maintain an active tree management program and to encourage the continuous planting and care of trees in communities. To commemorate the anniversary, street banners with the Tree City emblem were installed last week. According to an article in the Crescent News, the Defiance Shade Tree Commission, working closely with the city parks department. In addition, the commission will assist the City of Defiance and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry in hosting the Northwest Ohio Tree City 2023 awards program on April 17.
