Defiance Mayor to study a change in policing

Providing more, with less. That sums up what Defiance Mayor Mike McCann says he wants to study. He told council members Monday they will look at having the county sheriff’s office assume police duties and enlarging the sheriff’s office to cover the entire county. He reassured members that they are merely looking at the costs involved and if they can provide the same level or higher level of services at a reduced cost. He said the fire department is not under consideration for change. The review is an internal one and will be presented to the council members when complete.
