Dorothy Semer, 82

Dorothy A. Semer, 82 of Montpelier, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Montpelier.  She was born on March 9, 1933 in West Unity to Jacob F. and Mary C. (Rutledge) Zuver.
A Williams County resident for all of her life.  She graduated from West Unity Schools in 1951.  On March 6, 1954 she married Harry E. Semer and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2011.

At one time Dorothy worked at Mendelson Egg Co, A & A Poultry both of West Unity and at Strydel in Stryker.  She would eventually retire from the Millcreek West Unity Schools in 1994 where she was a School Cook for more than 20 years.
She was a member and attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Montpelier.  Dorothy was an avid sports fan and nothing got in her way of watching her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians.  Horse Racing held a special place in Dorothy’s heart and at one time she and Harry owned and trained thoroughbreds.  Dorothy was also well known for her cooking and awesome deserts.

Dorothy is survived by four children: Pamula (Stephen) Smith of Camden, Michigan, Allen (Kate) Semer of Pioneer, Thomas (Kelly) Semer of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Rebecca Semer of Montpelier, seven grandchildren Shane (Staci) Smith, Jacob (Sarah) Semer, Sarah (Lynn) Hartzler, Cody (Shawna) Semer, TJ (Alyssa) Smith, Haley (Chris) Collingwood, and Heath (Lexie) Semer; 12 great grandchildren, sister Della Zuver Leupp, and brother LeRoy Zuver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters Kathryn Roose, Audrey Bible, and Norma Zuver, two brothers Robert and Donald Zuver.

A time to receive friends will be on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 10am – 1pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier.  A memorial service will be held at 1pm with Pastor Stephen E. Smith to officiate.  Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Williams County Humane Society or Lake View Church Expansion.
