Eleanor Zimmerman, 97

Eleanor Lee (Leininger) Zimmerman, age 97, passed away Tuesday February 18. 2014 at the Lutheran Home in Napoleon.

Mrs. Zimmerman was born on October 26, 1916 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Dr. Otto and the late Elnora Elda Leininger. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on November 26, 1916 and confirmed at Wickes Park Lutheran Church on April 13, 1930. She graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy in 1939. She worked as a registered pharmacist at Carson, Pirie, Scott and Co. and at Pennington Presription Pharmacy in Chicago until moving to Wauseon on July 7, 1947. On January 6, 1951 she married Kenneth B. Zimmerman at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon. After raising her family she attended BGSU and received her teaching certification in 1973. She then taught in the Wauseon Schools for ten years.

Surviving are her children; Nora L. (Harry) Staunton of St. Marys, Ohio, Jane C. (Jerry) Hulse of Venice, FL, and John C. Zimmerman of Wauseon, Ohio. Also surviving are two grand-daughters; Lana L. Staunton of Columbus, OH and Alexa (Anthony) Coldiron of St. Marys, OH and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Kenneth.

Mrs. Zimmerman served as past-president of Gamma Chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma International Pharmaceutical Sorority, the American Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women’s Club, The Doorkeepers Young Women’s Missionary Society in Chicago, the YWCA Band and Trinity Lutheran Church Women. She was also active with the National Education Assoc., Ohio Education Assoc., the Wauseon Education Assoc., Vice-president of and the Fulton County Retired Teachers Assoc. She was a member of the University of Illinois Alumni Assoc., Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc. the National Farmers Organization and the USS North Carolina Women’s Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday February 22, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon with Pastor Keith Hunsinger and Pastor Jenn Herrmann officiating. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00am until service time.
