Henry Pape, Jr., 92

Henry J. “June” Pape, Jr, age 92, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:47 P.M. on Monday, February 17, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. Mr. Pape was a 1940 graduate of Archbold (Ohio) High School and entered the United States Army, serving during World War II in India and Burma. Following his discharge from the service, he went into the poultry business, working at Miller’s Turkey Farm in Montpelier, Ohio, and then went on to work for White Motor Company in Montpelier until it went out of business. He then went to work for Strydel Corporation in Stryker, Ohio, and retired as plant superintendent, with eighteen years of service. He was a longtime member of the Stryker American Legion, was an avid fisherman, enjoying time spent at his cottage at Little Long Lake in Montgomery, Michigan, and was also a fan of the Detroit Tigers. In retirement, he and his wife would spend their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida, where they enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

Henry J. “June” Pape, Jr. was born on November 27, 1921, in Archbold, Ohio, the son of Henry C. and Nancy (Leichty) Pape. He married his wife of sixty-six years, Miriam M. Britsch, on August 21, 1947, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she survives.

Survivors also include one son, John (Deb) Pape, of Montpelier, Ohio; two daughters, Nancy Somers, of Bryan, and Deb (James) Carros, of Vermillion, Ohio; four grandchildren, Aimee (Kevin) Rau, Tim Pape, Andrew Pape and Logan Pape; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Nate Rau. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Velma Miller and Florence Bernath, and one brother, Dale Pape.

Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with Reverend Jeffrey Motter officiating, followed by military rites conducted by the Stryker American Legion. Interment will be in Pettisville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan.

Memorials are requested to the Bryan Senior Center or to Community Health Professionals Hospice Care.
