Federal government approves Ohio’s restrictions on purchase of sugary drinks with SNAP benefits.

The federal government approved Ohio’s restrictions on the purchase of sugary drinks with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced. The new restrictions will go into effect Oct. 1. Beginning Oct. 1, Ohioans who receive SNAP benefits will not be able to purchase any drink that has sugar, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup or other sweeteners as a primary ingredient, according to the ODJFS.
