The superintendent of the Four-County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) is stepping down from the top post but will stay on staff. Melissa Garza notified the JDC Board of Trustees in writing recently that she wished to resign as superintendent but stay on staff. Prior to becoming superintendent more than three years ago, she was on staff, and her request was granted. Garza was not asked to resign and that the board was satisfied with Garza’s performance, especially recently as the JDC waded through the challenges of the COVID pandemic, and dealt with the release of a potentially deadly “fentanyl-like” substance through the facility’s air system in March.
