HOLGATE PROJECT DISCUSSED

Village leaders in Holgate are looking into the possibility of expanding and improving the park at Holgate’s former school site.

Earlier in the month, plans to replace two dugouts at the park were put on hold so village officials could take a look at the possibility of a larger-scale renovation to the area.

At a meeting last night, council was presented with a sketch detailing one possible option.

The sketch featured three baseball diamonds, a centrally-located concession/restroom/storage facility, and basketball courts, as well as open-air shelter houses and additional parking.

Currently the site houses one ball field and a restroom building.

Village leaders hope to pursue grant funding, as well as donations of both money and labor, in an effort to complete the project.

A meeting has been scheduled to take place July 16 at the village offices, in which council will seek community input on the project.
