The Defiance County commissioners hear a request to place a 1.4-mill levy renewal on the ballot for the 9-1-1 system. Defiance County Sheriff, Douglas Engel and Emergency 9-1-1 Director Matt Hanenkrath met with the commissioners to discuss the levy. The current levy is set to expire with the 2023 real estate taxes payable in 2024. The renewal would be for 2024 real estate taxes, payable in 2025, and would continue for five years. Hanenkrath reported his agency received 53,493 calls for service in 2022, compared to 52,831 calls for service in 2021 and 50,829 in 2020. Currently, the system is on track for 54,324 calls this year.
