Racism would be declared a public health crisis in Ohio…and the day celebrating the official end of slavery would become a paid state holiday under racial justice measures reintroduced in Columbus. The effort passed through the Senate unanimously in the last General Assembly but didn’t make it to the House. If passed, the bipartisan bill would make Ohio become the second state in the country, behind Texas, to make Juneteenth a paid holiday.
