A man is suing the company that provides health care services at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, saying he’s dying from cancer after receiving negligent health care. The complaint, filed last month in Williams County Common Pleas Court, claims Damien Thomas was held at CCNO in late 2019, when he started to experience rectal pain and bleeding. On separate occasions in January, February and March 2020, Thomas saw a certified nurse practitioner, employed by Southern Health Partners Inc., a Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company that contracts with CCNO to provide medical services to inmates. The lawsuit claims the nurse was aware of Thomas’ family history of colon cancer…as he repeatedly complained about the ongoing pain and bleeding. The filing indicates it took several weeks for the practitioner to arrange for testing…which later found…he had cancer.
