Lightning Strike Sets House Ablaze

A house fire over the weekend in Defiance that was said to have been caused by lightning left three people without a roof over their heads. It happened early Saturday morning, around 5AM, and when fire crews arrived, the fire was discovered in the attic of the house on Hopkins Street. Firefighters had it pretty well contained about an hour later. Two adults and one juvenile were displaced, and a Defiance firefighter was said to have been taken to Defiance Regional Medical Center as a precaution but was treated for unspecified reasons, and released. Investigators say initial inspection reveals that the fire was most likely caused by lightning as a thunderstorm rolled through the area early Saturday morning.
