Man sentenced in domestic violence case

An area man was sentenced to prison Monday in Defiance County Common Pleas Court for a domestic-related assault.
Roland Mansfield II was given a four-year prison term for felonious assault. He will be eligible for judicial release after serving six months.
Mansfield had been indicted by a county grand jury in November. They claimed that he dragged his girlfriend by the hair and threw her to the floor on Oct. 28, having had a prior domestic violence conviction.
During Monday’s sentencing Defiance County Prosecutor Morris Murray called the case a “classic domestic violence situation which rose to a very dangerous level. … It could have been much worse as to the outcome.”
Murray recommended a six-year prison term, noting that Mansfield has “some history” of domestic violence. Mansfield was convicted of domestic violence in 2007 — with a different victim.
According to Weber, both parties were intoxicated during the October incident.
Mansfield apologized to the court for the incident.
