Many employers in Ohio required by law to verify new employees through federal system.

Many employers in Ohio’s non-residential construction sector, including contractors, subcontractors, and labor brokers, are required by a new law to verify that newly hired employees are legally permitted to work in the United States using the federal E-Verify system. The Ohio Attorney General is empowered by HB 246 to look into and enforce adherence to the law, with potential fines or contract penalties for infractions. On Thursday, March 19, the new law will take effect.
