Marleen K. Shumaker, 78

Marleen K. Shumaker, age 78, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 4:30 A.M. on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Hillside Country Living near Bryan, where she was a resident. Mrs. Shumaker taught business for the Bryan City Schools for a number of years and then at International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She then taught business at Northwest State Community College for more than fifteen years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active as church organist and pianist for many years. She was a member of Bryan BPW, Phi Beta Kappa, and the local book club. Marleen was also an accomplished seamstress and painter. She enjoyed playing golf, “lake life,” boating, traveling, and spending time with friends, whether it was playing cards or having dinner.

Marleen K. Shumaker was born on April 14, 1943, in Delta, Ohio, the daughter of Corwin and Thelma (Dammon) Onweller. Marleen graduated from Delta High School and received her Associate’s Degree from Davis Business College in 1967, her Bachelor Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University in 1977, and her Master Degree in Administration from St. Francis College in 1992. She married Donald F. Shumaker on June 7, 1964, in Delta, and he preceded her in death on September 7, 2020.

Surviving are her daughters, Lisa (Mike Maxcy) Northcutt and Tiffany (Joe) Posey, and her grandson, Miles Posey, all of Bryan; bonus grandchildren, Hannah, Haley and Joshua Maxcy and Megan (Preston) Vonderwell and their daughter, Mara; her sister, Kathleen (George) Falconer, of Stewart Forida; one niece, Katie Falconer, of Stewart, Florida; and one nephew, Colby Falconer, of Columbus, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the church with Reverend Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Foundation for Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
