New Assistant Police Chief in Defiance

There is a new assistant police chief in Defiance, and two officer promotions have also been announced.

43 year old Todd Shafer, a 19 year veteran of the force, will replace Jeff Mack, who retired in January.

Shafer’s father, Gary, also was a police officer with the department for many years, and served as chief from 1981-85.

Todd Shafer’s promotion opened a lieutenant’s position which will be filled by 48 year old Todd Fry, a 20-year veteran. Fry’s sergeant’s position will be filled by 42 year old Dave Richards, who has been with the department for more than 17 years. A new patrolman will be hired to take Richard’s vacated position.

The new officers will be sworn in at 9 a.m. Wednesday in City Hall.
