The Bryan City Council approves hiring Greg Ruskey and Doug Pool to lead the police and fire departments, respectively, on Monday during council’s final regular meeting of 2021. Ruskey was sworn in as Bryan police captain in January 2021. Prior to that he had served with the Williams County Sheriff’s Office since 2002. He worked eight years in the department’s narcotics unit and was promoted to lieutenant in 2013. Ruskey has headed up Bryan PD since early August, when then-Chief Chris Chapa and then-Assistant Chief Gary Mohre were placed on leave following a public squabble between the two. Pool has been with the Bryan Fire Department for 27 years, starting as a firefighter and working his way up. He currently serves as assistant chief.
