The number of Defiance County write-in candidates in this year’s general election will remain at two.The deadline for write-in candidates in Ohio to qualify for the Nov. 8 ballot passed at 4 p.m. Monday. Steve Flory has filed as a write-in candidate for Defiance County sheriff, while Ryan Burger has filed as a candidate for county commissioner. They had announced their candidacies months ago. Flory, a former sheriff’s deputy, is running against Republican Doug Engel, chief deputy with the sheriff’s office and director of the Multi-Area Narcotics Unit. Engel was unopposed in the March GOP primary. Republican Sheriff David Westrick decided not to seek re-election to a ninth, four-year term due to health considerations.
