Williams County’s population dropped about 1.4% over the past decade…that’s according to preliminary data released by the Census Bureau. The estimated total population in 2010 was 37,642…now it’s at 37,102, in 2020. Around northwest Ohio, populations also fell in Henry…Defiance…and Paulding County, as well. Ohio’s statewide population grew by 2.3%,…from 11.5 million in 2010 to 11.7 in 2020. Ohio is the seventh most populous state in the nation. Fifty-five of the state’s counties gained in population. The stats show much of the state’s population growth came in and around the state capital. Not all Ohio cities grew. Cleveland saw a devastating loss of more than 24,000 residents, though its suburbs mostly held strong or grew. Toledo followed the same pattern, losing 16,000. Akron, Youngstown, Canton and Dayton all lost population, as well.
