Putnam County has the second lowest unemployment rate in the state for August, according to information from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Service. Putnam County’s rate was 3.2 percent. Only one county in the state had a lower unemployment rate than Putnam County. Mercer County’s rate was 3 percent. Putnam County isn’t the only county that has a reason to celebrate the unemployment figures. The whole region has seen a decrease in the not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from July to August according to figures. The region is below both the state and national not seasonally adjusted rates for August. The statewide rate was 4.7 percent and the national was 5 percent.
