Putnam County Sheriff’s Office investigating a fatal farm accident

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal farm accident that occurred Monday afternoon in Greensburg Township. Shortly before 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a trapped person in the 17000 block of Road I-14, Greensburg Township. Emergency personnel found 69 year old Gordon Verhoff trapped between the frame and bed of a GMC 3500 dump truck. The sheriff’s office said it appeared Verhoff had recently emptied a load of stone and was inspecting the underside of the dump bed when it unexpectedly dropped, resulting in fatal injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
