As part of Phase One of its Travel Plaza Master Plan, the Indiana Toll Road will be closing the Steuben County travel plaza buildings and fuel stations at the 146 mile marker on Thursday. Demolition is scheduled to take place in 2016. It was decided to close the Steuben County travel plazas after it was determined it was unnecessary to the long-term plan due to the close distance of neighboring plazas. The Steuben location offers only fuel and restrooms. The owner, I.T.R. Concession Company, says more than $30 million will be spent on the demolition and rehabilitation of eight travel plaza buildings. In addition to the Angola plaza, the Howe-LaGrange travel plazas will be torn down and rebuilt into full service plazas too. I.T.R. says the newly designed structures will feature modern travel facilities with state-of-the-art technology and new food options. Construction is scheduled to be completed by early 2018.
