Sands Case Update

The man being held responsible for hitting and killing an Indiana State Police Trooper in March appears in court on Tuesday. Terry Sands is accused of hitting and killing ISP Master Trooper James Bailey on March 3 along I-69, just south of Auburn. According to court reports, Bailey came in to work on his day off to aid with crashes on I-69 when he heard about a police pursuit with Sands. As Bailey was trying to stop Sands, officials say Sands drove into the median…directly into Bailey’s path, striking him with his vehicle. During a pretrial hearing…the judge granted a continuance for his jury trial, which was originally set for August. The jury trial is now set to take place in March 2024. Attorneys also discussed a change of venue during the hearing, although an official motion has not yet been filed. Sands is charged with murder and more.
