Smith Case Update

The next court appearance for a Toledo man, accused of murdering a Montpelier woman has been delayed. Thomas Smith was scheduled for a pretrial conference on Tuesday…but it has been pushed back to 9 a.m. Aug. 11. Many court cases around the country have been postponed since COVID-19. Prosecutors say Smith stabbed Danialle Swan several times at a Toledo gas station. In March, Smith pled not guilty to the charges. In early May, Smith’s defense team resubmitted the plea as not guilty by reason of insanity. Smith was found competent to stand trial in mid-April.
