Summer food programs here in Northwest Ohio are getting ready to kick off. The Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission offers the program, along with the U.S. Department of Education and Ohio Department of Agriculture. The aim is to make sure that kids get free and healthy lunches when school is out for the summer. This year, there will be 13 sites, and hungry kids don’t need to even show proof they are in the free and reduced lunch program in order to get a meal in the summer food service program this sumemr. There is no registration required. Meals are served to children ages 1–18, but an adult needs to accompany children younger than 5. Last year in the five-county region, there were 1,909 children who were served 15,002 meals over the summer. Call 419–784-2150 ext. 1110 for more information or to register children. The summer food program is funded by the Ohio Department of Education through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
