Teen’s trial begins

The robbery trial of Defiance teen began this week in Defiance Common Pleas Court. 18-year-old Kasym Assaf is charged with robbery and theft. He was indicted by a grand jury that he and two juveniles robbed another juvenile of his sneakers and bike in Diehl Park last October. The victim was punched in the face and his shoes and bike were taken. Three prosecution witnesses took the stand in the afternoon, including one of the co-defendants who previously entered a plea to an amended robbery charge and is awaiting sentencing in July.
